Language and Language Models – WoLaLa 2025 Successfully Held in Budapest

The First International Workshop on Language and Language Models (WoLaLa 2025) took place in Budapest on 20–21 November 2025, bringing together around 70 participants from several countries and disciplines.

The workshop was opened by Alessandro Lenci’s keynote talk, What LLMs Miss About Meaning and Why. Further invited keynote lectures were given by Erhard Hinrichs (The Added Value of LLMs for Lexicography and for Lexical Semantics) and András Kornai (The Linguistic Value of LLMs). The event concluded with a round table titled Do LLMs “understand” language?, which sparked vivid discussion on linguistic understanding, meaning, and the role of large language models in contemporary research.
