The Wiley Blackwell Companion to Diachronic and Historical Linguistics has been published with contributions from our researchers

The Companion to Diachronic and Historical Linguistics has been published by Wiley Blackwell. This monumental volume presents an overview of various aspects of historical linguistics based on case studies from a variety of language families. The book explores the mechanisms of language change and evolution, bridging theoretical models and empirical research. With contributions from more than 150 scholars, the volume covers a broad spectrum of linguistic research, from phonetics and syntax through semantics and pragmatics to the relationship between language and society. The studies represent diverse language families, including underrepresented and non-verbal languages such as sign languages. Through its interdisciplinary approach, the volume connects linguistics with related fields such as psychology, anthropology, sociology, and biology, offering a richer understanding of the interaction between language, human cognition, and society.

Researchers from the ELTE Research Centre for Linguistics made a particularly strong contribution to the volume. One of the editors is Katalin É. Kiss, who also contributed as a co-author. In addition, six of our researchers, András Cser, Éva Dékány, Ekaterina Georgieva, Tamás Halm, Veronika Hegedűs, and Péter Rebrus authored individual chapters in the book.
