21st Conference on Applied Linguistics for PhD Students
The Working Committee on Applied Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the ELTE Research Centre for Linguistics announces its 21st Conference on Applied Linguistics for PhD Students. The conference series is organized annually.
The next conference will take place on: February 5, 2027
Abstract submission deadline: November 6, 2026.
How to apply: submit an anonymized abstract by sending an email.

- Please, include the following information in your email: name, email, name of the doctoral school, name of the supervisor(s).

Note that for the peer-review, we expect anonymized pdf files. In case of acceptance, the revised abstract will have to include the author(s), affiliation(s) and the acknowledgement (if any).

The aim of the conference
The aim is to promote and support the research in the field of applied linguistics, to connect young researchers with each other, to support postgraduate education, and to promote participation in Hungarian and international academic life.
The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity to introduce high quality PhD research in applied linguistics, to discuss questions and issues occurring in the various areas and to help young researchers to network with each other and other representatives of the field.
The topics of applied linguistics are addressed at an advanced level in many PhD programs in Hungary, however, the students of these doctoral programs have few opportunities to gain insight into the work at other programs and to find out about each other’s main research topics, questions and methods. Our conferences aim to present an opportunity for such meetings and discussions.
Applications for the conference are open to PhD and Master’s students from (doctoral) schools both in Hungary and external regions. Applicants are welcome regardless of their specific academic program, provided that their research topic is relevant to applied linguistics.[1]
Topics of the conference All topics related to applied linguistics by PhD students are welcome at the conference.

- use of the internet in foreign language teaching

- lexicology and lexicography
- psycholinguistics
- sociolinguistics
- terminology
- text linguistics, discourse analysis, stylistics
- translation studies
- other topics of applied linguistics
Presentation and abstract requirements: reporting on new and completed (but not yet published) research.

The language of the presentation: Hungarian or English
Presentation and attendance of the conference is free.
