MTA–ELTE NYTK Lendület „Momentum” Neurophonetics Research Group•Research area
The research group was established in the fall of 2024 as part of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Lendület „Momentum” grant at the ELTE Research Centre for Linguistics, in collaboration with its Psycho- and Neurolinguistics and Phonetics research groups. At the time of its establishment, it was still part of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, under the name MTA–HUN-REN NYTK Lendület Neurophonetics Research Group.
Our main research topic is the phonetic examination of neuroatypical speech, analyzing how certain phonological contrasts, i.e., phonological oppositions, are realized in comparison with neurotypical speech. Analyses of articulation and acoustic features help to describe the general patterns and the variability of specific speaker groups’ speech, and the degree and typology of differences between the speech of different individuals can be identified.
Our subjects live with diseases with a genetic or neural background that affects, or may affect speech production. Thus, the results of our research can be used not only inthe science of phonetics but also in speech diagnosis and therapy.
